BETTE BOGGESS

I too was born of a middle class family in a big city, Washington, D.C. It was a great time to grow up there.
We didn't worry about security. You could wander all the capital buildings at your leisure. We always met
various congressmen who would take us to lunch and help with school projects. It is sad to see how terror
has changed everything. Went to college at the University of Maryland, School of Nursing. During my
ast two years in Baltimore was when I met my husband Gary. He was in the Marine Corps and our first date
was to the Marine Corps Ball. IT sure is easy to fall for a man in uniform. Our first duty station after marriage
was in Hawaii. It was like an extended honeymoon till our first child was born. Our next tour was in Norfolk, VA.
Our daughter was born there. Then is was time for Gary to do his unaccompanied tour in Okinawa. That was
a rough year. I moved back to the DC area to be near family.
When he returned, Gary finished out his time in Washington, D.C. From there we moved to Orlando, FL to
try retired life. That is where Dottie and I became "sisters". I loved it there and would still live there
but Gary wasn't happy. It was back to D.C. after 5 years. Gary put in 16 years in the Intelligence field.
Can't tell you what he did. I worked for the county health department working my way up to Communicable
Disease Supervisor where I retired in 2001. Gary is from Washington State which is why we decided to
retire here. I had lived on the east coast my whole life and now want to explore the west. It sure is a
change. The hardest part is leaving my mom, 2 children and 2 grandchildren on the east coast. My son
lives in GA, daughter in NC and mom in MD. We are leaving June 20 for an extended trip back east to see
all.
