My husband Les and I meet in 1974 through a catholic singles club, I was catholic he is not but a friend of his invited him. At the time I really was not interested in dating because I had gone through a bad relationship 3 years prior to a guy that I was engaged to who was fooling around with someone else behind my back. We broke up, he ended up marrying her because he got her pregnant.

I was friendly to Les, but apprehensive. He finally asked me out and I said, "O.K.", but he called me at work and canceled the date telling me he had to have a new transmission put in his car and could not take me out, I replied, "Yea, right." and hung up on him. A coworker told me to give him a break that he was probably telling the truth, but I still refused to believe him. After he got his car repaired he brought the bill over to my house to prove to me that he really did get a transmission, but I still wouldn't believe him. I did eventually go out with him and we got married July 26, 1975. I guess it was the stubborn Spaniard in me that refused to believe him.
