| A FEW WORDS
FROM OUR PRESIDENT
Life has a way of offering choices to every one. Some make good choices, some bad. How great it was for me to be invited to join Beta Sigma Phi. I made the right choice as you all did. I chose to join. From that one choice has come a lifetime of life, learning and friendship. A choice that determined wherever we went we would have friends. I have been in Sorority for 35 years now and have enjoyed every minute of it. Four years ago I was introduced to a new medium of meetings. The internet. What a vast range of sisterhood this opened for so many of us. Time, location or age makes no difference. The opportunities this door opened are almost incomprehensible. Yes, it took some learning for we older members. You younger ones had the advantage of learning in school or through work. Some of us through family members or taking courses. And of course the ole trial and error method. How very blessed I was when my grand daughter taught me how to use the computer. To go online and find still more beautiful sisters out there. Our sister Donna first told me about online chapters. I visited her online chapter, joined and met many wonderful women. I was a member for three years and then left to help Darby friendly venture Online Lambda. Being chosen as the first president of Online Lambda is such an honor and I thank all of you for allowing me to lead you this charter year in Online Kappa. There can be no president, no chapter without all of you. Each and every one of you make this chapter what it is. Another blessing for all of us is having Irene Jarvis, a champion in the organization of online chapters as our advisor/fairy God Sister. She is continually working to get onlines sanctioned at International. Irene is convention chairman for the 2006 online convention in Kansas City, Missouri. My wish for each of you is a year of friendship, love, learning and fun. A time of forming new and deeper friendships. A time of renewing old ones. A time of renewing our commitment to our sisterhood. May the Lord watch between me and thee while we are absent one from the other. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am thy sister. Georgia Phillips, President Online Lambda 2004-05 |

TRAVEL SMART
by Kimberly LIsagor
There's good news for road trippers who
like to plan their itineraries online. The Automobile
Association of America has joined the ranks of MapQuest, MSN Maps
& Directions and Yahoo! Maps by offering virtual mapping at
AAAmaps.com.
These features are available free to the
auto club's members and non-members alike.
LIke its competitors, AAAmaps lets users
access printable maps by typing in any address in the United States or
Canada. Enter two addresses and you'll get detailed, reliable
directions with the total mileage and estimated driving time.
The AAA site also helps you locate
businesses near a given address, and -most notably- alerts you to any
traffic incidents that may slow down your commute.
Each service has slightly different
features. Yahoo Maps (maps.yahoo.com) has a new feature called
SmartView, which gives detailed information on hundreds of businesses
near your destination (or home). An on MSN Maps & Directions
(maps.msn.com), you can find overseas addresses, as well as North
American ones. Together, these mapping sites make planning a
road trip a virtually seamless experience.

Laughter is the Best Medicine....

Battle of the Bulge...Some Ideas for Winning While cruising along the Internet, I came across the suggestions below and thought that they might be of interest. Include hot foods. If Mexican and Thai are favorites, you’re in luck. “Spicy food that has hot peppers in it appears to boost metabolism,” Lieberman says. Drink green tea. “There are unhealthy things that can boost your metabolism, like a really strong cup of coffee, or nicotine, but I would never say go have a cigarette!” says Michelle Streif, a personal trainer in Nebraska. Nor overdo it on caffeine, which also has undesirable side effects. Instead, go for green tea, says Lieberman, which is known to stimulate metabolism longer and more effectively than coffee. Sleep. Research shows that people who don’t sleep for seven to eight hours a night are more prone to weight gain. Additionally, we now know that lean muscle is regenerated in the final couple of hours of sleep each night. |
